Stupidity at Its Climax Over the Dog Catching Competition

MPS president Zainal Abidin Azim said that the council had to act to solve a problem that was getting serious.

“We receive more than 80 complaints on stray dogs daily especially with new townships established every year in Selayang, Rawang, Sungai Buloh and Kuang. When the problem is solved, then we will leave the dog catching to the professionals.”

What sort of answer is this? Is he stupid or suffering from malfunction of the brain? When it is solved they will leave it to professionals? So why again do we term those people professionals if they cannot do their job? How can a resident do the job of a professional who are trained or equipped to do the job when the professional themselves are failing? Where is the rationality to such a suggestion? Where?

I guess since the MP is suffering from malfunction people are taking things into their on hands instead of sitting back and waiting for them to come to their sense. Today 50 animal lovers staged a peaceful protest outside the Selayang Municipal Council HQ to go against the ongoing stray dog catching competition, do read<“Malaysiakini for the full report”> for more information.

A reader of The Star like many others complained about this inhumane act towards animals in the country starting from the urban monkeys till this dog catching competition. I’d like to take a quote she used from Gandhi to illustrate how the reader felt…

Gandhi once said: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”How well said….hopefully the government doesn’t allow stupid people like this to paint a horrible picture of Malaysia…a nation which loves animals and does not mistreat them..Anyway…

According to an animal lover’s blog I gathered that much actions has been taken by different quarters over this issue of which is an online petition and a memorandum that was delivered to the office of the MP today. For those of you who would like to show support please do sign this<“online petition to stop the hunt”>

According to <” Cleopatra of Mad About Labradors”>

Animal rights groups, SPCA, ROAR, PETPOSITIVE, MARPO etc, and a coalition of individual animal lovers gathered at the MPS this morning to hand over a Memorandum and the signatures collected from both the online petition and from the peaceful protest, despite a warning from Datuk Tang See Hang (see The StarMetro 10, Sept 2007 – Groups told not to Protest) that he will not meet with animal rights groups on Thursday if we were gather at the Council’s premises today. His warnings were not heeded as there was in fact no scheduled meeting between himself and the groups concerned.”

It was interesting to note, that the YDP, Tn. Zainal Abidin Bin Azim, was conveniently on leave, although his car was parked in the porch. His Deputy, Tn Hj. Jamri bin Hasni was also missing in action. They sent a PR Officer, a Ms Helda, down to meet us. We were quite amused that there was over 20 security personnel manning the lobby of the Council, and Ms Helda was also escorted by 2 burly security personnel.” For more detailed information concerning what happen during the peaceful protest this morning to hand over the memorandum do read<” Cleopatra of Mad About Labradors”>. She has quite an interesting take on the matter and also has ample documentation of the memorandum, online petition etc.
