Free Nathaniel Tan!! Write!

I received this in my email today, please use this to help free Nat!

CIJ urges you to write to the IGP to demand for the release of blogger
and PKR staff Nathaniel Tan, who has been detained by the police since
late afternoon yesterday. He is being investigated under the OSA for
postings in his blog and held incommunicado until about ten at night.
This is a violation of freedom of speech and the duration and arbitrary
manner of the arrest suggest a form of intimidation against bloggers.

Dear Sir,

Re: Prolonged detention of blogger and PKR staff

We are writing to express our deepest concerns over the detention of a
PKR staff and blogger, Nathaniel Tan, by the police. Tan’s detention
were purportedly for investigation under the Penal Code, but the police
later switch statement and said he is now being investigated under the
Official Secret Act (OSA) for content of his blog.

Nathaniel Tan was taken for questioning by three plainclothes police
officers since 4:45pm on 13 July. The policemen, believed to be from the
Special Branch, were said to have requested for Tan to follow them to
the Bukit Aman police headquarters for questioning and did not provide
any reasons as to why Tan was asked to follow them. Police confirmed at
10:00pm on 13 July that they have taken Nathaniel Tan for questioning.

We urges for his release immediately as no charged is being instituted
against him and the police cannot prove that he is threatening national
security. It is against the Federal Constitution, which accords for the
right to freedom of expression, to detain a citizen for speaking his mind.

Yours sincerely,
